World Down Syndrome Day

It’s World Down Syndrome Day!

Did you know that the 21st day of March was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome?

In awareness of this day all our staff wore odd socks to the farm today, this is because chromosomes are shaped like socks, and since those with Down syndrome carry an extra chromosome, mismatched socks are a great symbol for the day. Did you wear your odd socks today too?

Our young people have been learning about Down Syndrome today by watching an educational video, drawing some odd socks, and completing an activity where they explored what makes them and everyone else unique.

One young person has also been learning how to pick our horses feet and our thoroughbred, Seren, has had her tail trimmed.
